tips to keep jewelry like new
Salts, chlorine, and other chemicals can dull or cause tarnish jewelry over time.
Remove jewelry before applying sunscreen, bug spray, self tanner, or lotions. These items can fill small crevices in the chains or prongs, eventually making jewelry dingy.
Avoid exposing jewelry to extensive direct sunlight. The sun can eventually bleach certain materials and natural elements.
Remove rings when in very cold temperatures. Fingers can shrink and allow rings to slip off.
Remove jewelry before gardening or playing in the sand. Dirt and smaller rocks can be abrasive and cause permanent damage to your jewelry.
Clean jewelry regularly, for body sweat and oils can dull the glow of your jewelry. You can gently wash jewelry with warm soapy water and fully dry with soft microfiber cloth.
Store jewelry in a clean and dry area, such as a fabric lined jewelry box or a fabric lined divider. A nice storage compartment for your jewelry will prevent pieces from scratching each other.
Watch for vulnerability in the jewelry. If you spot a missing prong, gem, or damaged chain link; please message Honey Girl Treasures right away and we will happily repair your treasured item (some repairs may have a price),
Gold Filled Jewelry
Gold-filled vs. Gold-plated-
Gold-plated is a thin layer of gold plated over a base metal such as copper, brass, or silver. This technique allows many to enjoy gold jewelry at a fraction of the price. Gold plated jewelry is to be treated very gently, for it will tarnish. It is not water resistant or sweat resistant. If maintained properly it can be a timeless treasure.
Gold-filled is many thick wrapped layers of gold around a base metal. The gold used for this process is usually 12K, 14K , or 18K. Gold-filled jewelry is a little more expensive but also much more durable. It is water resistant, easy to set and forget, and will not tarnish. Gold-filled jewelry is also a wonderful option for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
